Anyway, VFR maniacs Experimental builds is really experimental as its name. It’s definitely worth $20 as is (but a pro-enhancement would still be nice). As you know, Japanese are good for dealing with something low like cars of low-fuel consumption. Previous DOOM games were the product of John Romero and John Carmacks combined strengths as designers, but DOOM 3 came about after Romero departed id Software.

No other game in the franchise plays quite like DOOM 3. I feel like too many VR games get scaling of humans wrong but Doom3 VR unfortunately does that and has these comically small heads on top of that. Rumors seemingly pointed to a DOOM VFR follow-up using DOOM Eternals sandbox, but finally bringing DOOM 3 to VR makes much more sense. Fortunately, you don’t encounter other human characters often enough for it to become a distraction. The “kid heads” always gets a laughter out of me. The chaingun is a bit odd as well, since the model is intended to be used in hip-firing position - when you switch from a tight grip on the assault rifle to the chain gun you get your fist right in front of your view until you lower the Aim. At no point does the game feel like “this wasn’t made for VR”. Mood, ambience, and lighting is well done, once you accept that the graphics are several generations old (and I remember playing it at release thinking it looked amazing). Doom 3: VR Edition features Doom 3 and its expansions, Resurrection of Evil and The Lost Mission, retooled for PS VR technology. Learning to use the 180 button is a must. It gives you a tiny bit of time to get positioned and check your surroundings (which is important, since the game is consistent in punishing you for not watching your back). I didn’t realize how well the slower pace of Doom3 is suited to VR until I played. I think it’s the enclosed spaces that help, as well as the butter-smooth frame rate. I was sure that the game would have me feeling ill, like Farpoint does to me eventually. I just finished a 2.5 hour session (standing!) and don’t even notice the time passing.
